Kilimanjaro, located in the Kilimanjaro National Park, is shrouded in mystery, with various interpretations of its name. The locals, known as the wachagga, only have one name for the snowy peak, Kipoo (now called Kibo), which stands proudly as the summit of Africa.
Regardless of its name, Kilimanjaro embodies the captivating beauty of East Africa. As the highest peak on the continent and the tallest free-standing mountain globally, it rises dramatically from the surrounding Savannah, which reaches an impressive height of 5’895 meters above sea level.

Starting with lush montane forests inhabited by elusive wildlife like elephants and leopards, the ascent leads through moorlands adorned with giant heathers and otherworldly giant lobelias. As altitude increases, an alpine desert emerges in Kilimanjaro National Park, supporting minimal vegetation before transitioning to a stunning winter landscape of ice and snow, showcasing the unparalleled beauty of Africa’s highest peak.
